AIDS Arms LifeWalk

Since our inception in 1986, AIDS Arms, Inc. has served over 15,000 HIV+ individuals, their partners and families. HIV is reaching crisis levels in our community with over 20,000 people living with the disease in North Texas today. It no longer matters who you are or where you live today. Whether your life is in South Dallas or University Park, Oak Lawn or Oak Cliff, rich, poor or middle class – If you engage in unsafe sexual or drug related activities, you are at real risk for HIV infection.

While the disease still hits hardest the poor, gay men and ethnic minorities, today we all know someone living with the financial, emotional and physical challenges of HIV. They are our family members, our co-workers, our neighbors, our friends – people we all care about. Yet the toxic and isolating stigma of HIV remains alive along with prevalent attitudes that HIV/AIDS is a disease of choice and so “someone else’s problem” or worse, not a problem at all. Yet HIV continues to cost our community and our clients millions of dollars each year in emergency room and inpatient care, lost employment and productivity, and rising health insurance and disability premiums. This economic cost equals the personal loss thousands of North Texans experience every year as they endure the emotional and physical toll of the disease. HIV and AIDS is not “their” problem – It is our problem; one we must all work together to solve in positive, creative and cost effective ways.

AIDS Arms is here to help those living with HIV with hope, compassion and care, while also employing evidence-based interventions in the community to stop its spread. Our job is not to blame or point fingers – Our job is to respond to the problems HIV creates for individuals, families and our entire community, and do so in a responsible and empathetic way. Our activities, in collaboration with many other service organizations and public health entities, are aggressively combating HIV and its effects.

We cannot accomplish our mission alone. We need your help. Please call us today to donate your time, dollars or expertise. Someone you know needs your help. Help us help them – Help us help our community. Help us combat the impact of HIV and AIDS.
