AAI received notification from United Way that they would be increasing AIDS
Arms' funding by 11%! This is great news to AAI and means a total increase
of $50,000 in awards. In United Way's letter to AAI they stated how
impressed they are with the quality, skills and passion AAI staff members
show in helping people living with HIV/AIDS. This is truly a remarkable
increase for AIDS Arms and will allow for more opportunity to offer hope,
compassion and care.

Arms Adds Client Resource Library to Sunset Office
One of the newest
additions to AIDS Arms is the Client Resource Library. The resource
library will enable clients of AIDS Arms to access up-to-date information on
treatment options, adherence support, risk reduction information, and the
newest information on HIV and its disease process. The new library also
allows for clients who wouldn't normally have easy access to HIV related
information become more knowledgeable about resources available to them. The
space is located at the Sunset office and although it will be supported by
staff AIDS Arms volunteers will head up the day-to-day operations.

Arms Peabody Health Center Named as New HIV/AIDS Clinical Research Site in Texas
AIDS Arms’ Peabody
Health Center, Clinical Research Site, Dallas, TX in conjunction with
Northwestern University Clinical Trials Unit in Chicago, is honored to
be named as one of the 140 U. S. and international sites to be selected as a
HIV/AIDS Clinical Research Site (CRS) by the
National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAID), part of
the
National Institutes of Health. NIAID supports the world’s largest
HIV/AIDS clinical research effort. It recently restructured its clinical
research organization into six networks, the
AIDS Clinical Trial Group (ACTG) being one of those six. Peabody Health
Center has been named as a new Texas member of the ACTG. This project will
involve multiple short and long term research projects in the fight against
HIV/AIDS over a seven year period.

Update
--
According to
Dallas County HHSon
January 15 – there were 1,313 new HIV/AIDS cases reported in 2007 in
Dallas County. This is
higher than previous years – 150 to 200 higher.
United States are now HIV infected.
Approximately 1.6 million individuals.
-
-
The
CDChas evaluated its
reporting methods and has formally reported that instead of 40,000 new cases
per year in the United States, there are really 50,000 to 60,000 new cases
per year. We will not know the exact 2007 new infection numbers for some
time – that’s a long process before those statistics are publicized.
--
The
United States
is an exception when looking at new HIV infections on a global basis. The
World Health Organization recently (November 2007) reported that new HIV
infections were dropping in third world countries. The United States is not
– it is rising.
